Kweza Craft Brewery — Rwanda's first craft brewery, women-owned, award-winning — has survived a crucible, and is now brewing again from our new facility in Kigali.

We make world-class beer from native ingredients. Our sorghum IPA won Bronze at the African Beer Cup. We're kegging for all the top Kigali hotels and restaurants, and canning for the world.

Full-time position for an experienced, production scale craft beer brewer in Kigali, Rwanda now open.  Short-term positions also available — practicums, experienced brewers curious about sorghum and African botanicals.

If you're experienced, adaptable, and want to brew something genuinely different — we want to hear from you!

Our Story

Kweza Craft Brewery was first dreamed of in 2016. To create Rwanda’s first craft brewery — one rooted in African brewing traditions, led by women, and built on sustainable local ingredients.

Born through international crowdfunding, and incorporated in 2020, Kweza set out to blend centuries-old knowledge of brewing with sorghum other native ingredients with modern, world-class brewing techniques.

Over the past five years, we became Rwanda’s only independent craft brewery — creating skilled jobs, supporting local farmers, and training women leaders in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

By mid 2025, Kweza was preparing for its next phase of growth and wider distribution when our operations were disrupted by an unlawful seizure and prolonged regulatory delays.

Our mission — to build high-quality, locally rooted, women-led African manufacturing — remains unchanged.
